“Maybe she got held up,” I said as Kenny paced.

Kendrick was supposed to be here over two hours ago, and Tasha wasn’t answering her phone. I was trying to remain positive and keep Kenny in a good head space. He was so happy when he first got here about being approved to expand his convenience store into something amazing. He’d kissed me on the lips in front of the kids. But now he was angry and worried, and that was causing me to be angry as well. I never thought I would be able to handle raising someone else’s child with Kenny, but if I wanted him back, I would have to accept it.

“She being conniving and trifling.”

Just as he said that, the doorbell rang. The kids were already eating nachos though, because they’d gotten hungry. Our dinner plans were ruined, and Kenny was pissed. He flung the door open and she cowered in his presence. He picked up Kendrick as he said, “Da-da!”

Kenny kissed his head, then put him down. He ran straight to the table with the kids, but I noticed he was dirty. Staying in place, I knew I needed to watch Kenny to be sure he didn’t strangle the fuck out of Tasha. I’d gladly do that shit for him, though. “Where the fuck you been?” he asked in a low and deadly voice.

Okay, maybe the kids needed to get out of here. “KJ and Karima, y’all go upstairs and take Kendrick with you. KJ, can you start him some bath water running?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

He’d been so mild-mannered since we’d been back. I was thankful for that. Once they were upstairs, I walked closer to Kenny and Tasha to hear her say, “He’s my fucking son, too. I should be able to keep him as long as I want!”

“That’s your fault why you can’t. I would have been fine with the time change if you would’ve called and said something, though. I was sitting here worried that something had happened to him.”

“What about me? You weren’t worried about something happening to me?”

“I don’t give a fuck about you, Tasha.”

“Oh, but you gave a good fuck when you was diving in my pussy.”

Before Kenny could grab her, I stepped in front of him. “Kendrick is home. Just let it go. He needs y’all to be able to get along. Although, he’s young, he can sense your attitudes towards one another. Please.”

Tasha rolled her eyes and dropped his duffle bag and walked off. Kenny wrapped his arms around me and kissed the side of my head. “Thank you, Keisha, ‘cause I was finna snatch her ass up. I hate that I fucked her. What in the fuck was I thinking? Why didn’t I force you to talk to me? Fuck!”

I turned around in his arms and gently rubbed his face. “We can’t dwell in the past, baby. Let’s just move forward. I wanna move forward with you, the first and only man to steal my heart. I love you, Kenny.
